Breach of Contract
On top of being a lonely girl... I'm usually a screwed over girl. Signing contracts with relatives for flipping property only to have every inch of the contract breached. About a year ago I broke up with my fiance and moved into my father's vacant property (at his request). I had just gotten screwed for 7K by that guy but that's a story for another day. Now to give you some background on these events I'll have to back up for a bit. My father used to work for a company that built fire hydrants, he made them millions of dollars over the years, making a respectable 6 figure salary for his efforts. They however, hired a few VPs who didn't like him, after he had turned down the VP job for himself. Long story short, it was "awful" for him for 3 years. The company ended up moving to another city and he got a huge chunk of severence change and was let go after 28 years. Now don't start feeling sorry for him yet. After this happened he got a contract job with another company that melted steel for over 6 figures and went on to get other "consulting" contracts which earned him a little over double what the first one paid. So he then bought a bigger house in a different city closer to his main contract. Problem was, he couldn't sell his existing one because he doesn't take care of his stuff. Good luck for him, I was getting out of a messy messy break up, where my credit had taken a 100 point hit, puting me under the number you need to get good interest rates, and being fucked for 7000 dollars on top of that. I was broke. So he asked me if I'd like to move into his house he can't sell for 750.00 a month rent well to start, rent was raised 4 months after I moved in. Seemed like a pretty good deal so I agreed. Now this was before I knew that he was going to have the house up for sale the day after I moved in. He had told me he was taking it off the market for 6 months and that I would have 6 months to live there, worry free. 1st time breaking his word. Then he couldn't sell it again, so we wrote up a deal, that was a bit on the bad side for me, but still a decent enough deal, that I would do all of the work, front all of the money and reno the property for him to resell at a higher price and we'd split the profit based on a low ball offer he had received for the house. This would start on March 17 after the listing was up. Well March 18 I started to do the work, but he extended his little show and tell pony show of the house by 2 weeks. Now this agreement was signed, let's just get that in the open to begin with. Then finally I was able to start doing work to the house. But hold up, he told me to do one room at a time and he was going to send some help down for the painting. One month delay, no help came... And guess what, he had a private buyer coming through the house to buy the house below our base amount. Another 2 week delay. Just so you are aware there was flower wallpaper in every single room of this house, and for anyone who knows about wallpaper, it's a bitch to remove. There also was carpet so stained a steam cleaner wouldn't take the stains out. There was also so much junk and garbage at both sides of the house, it took me 3 truck loads of a full sized pick up, to remove all of the shit from either side of the house. I was actually getting close to having the work completed and he brought another private buyer through buying below our base cost. Maybe he over extended himself. I have no idea. And this guy is threatening to sue him for breach of a verbal contract. Truth is, I have a written contract that is broken, I'm out labour time and material cost, for what a panicked man, who got a lot less for his house than he should have got. He's lucky he's family or we would be in court right now.
